Getting started
ConvertIt doesn't open when I press the hotkey
Global hotkeys require Accessibility permission on macOS. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then enable ConvertIt in the list. If ConvertIt isn't listed yet, open it once first, then check again.
If it's already enabled but still not working, try toggling it off and on, or remove and re-add ConvertIt to the list.
How do I change the hotkey?
Click the gear icon in the top-right of the ConvertIt panel to open
Settings, then click the hotkey field and press your preferred key
combination. The default is ⌘⌥⌃⇧C.
How do I quit ConvertIt?
Open ConvertIt with your hotkey, then click Quit ConvertIt in the bottom-right corner of the panel. Since ConvertIt lives in the menu bar, it won't appear in the Dock or in Cmd+Tab.
Conversions
What conversion types are supported?
Temperature, distance, weight, volume, data size, speed, area, pressure, energy, fuel economy, time zones, currency, percentage, and tip. Switch between Quick mode (type something like "72f to c") and Guided mode (pick a category and units from menus) in Settings.
Does currency conversion need an internet connection?
Yes, to fetch live exchange rates. ConvertIt caches rates for 24 hours, so you can keep converting offline using the last known rates within that window.
How do I copy a result?
Press Return to copy the current result to your clipboard. In Settings, you can also enable "Auto-copy when result changes" so every update copies automatically.
Media tab
How do I batch convert images, video, or audio?
Open the Media tab, then the Convert sub-tab. Drop your files (or use Choose Files…), pick an output format, and click Convert. ConvertIt processes images and audio/video with AVFoundation and a bundled FFmpeg binary.
How does batch renaming work?
In Media → Rename, drop any files and set a rename pattern using tokens:
{name}— the original filename without extension{n}/{nn}— a sequence number, with or without zero-padding{ext}— the original file extension
For example, {name}_{nn}.{ext} turns photo.jpg
into photo_01.jpg.
Where do converted or renamed files go?
By default, output goes to your Downloads folder. You can change this in the Media tab by clicking Change… next to the output folder path.

Yes, ConvertIt is free to download and use. If you find it useful, you can buy me a coffee to support development. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions.
What macOS versions and Macs are supported?
macOS 13 Ventura or later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
